This episode (S2 E4: What is Race?) focused on what race is, how it cannot be biological, and what difference it would make if people thought about race that way. As further noted by BYUradio, “When we think of race, we might naturally think of one’s skin color. But someone who is black can have white skin. So what is race? Two researchers say we are getting it all wrong and that biological race is a myth. But they say socially-defined race and racism are alive and continue to this day.”
During this interview, Terry also dived deeper into how CF has influenced his experiences regarding race, how some people’s ideas that race is biological affected his ability to get treatment, is race biological, and how does he think the idea that race is a biological fact affects Black people’s ability to get care. The goal of this episode is to show people how complicated race actually is and help people engage in important conversations about race.
